Consulting

Independent IT consulting for Australian businesses: cloud and hybrid design, Microsoft 365 and identity, security posture, and migration roadmapping.

Most work runs remotely with structured sessions and written deliverables; we also meet face-to-face in Newcastle or on-site nationally when that genuinely improves the outcome.

Where we help you decide and de-risk

Layer 3 consulting is for organisations that want an independent read on infrastructure, cloud, Microsoft 365, and security, then a plan they can fund, staff, and defend to leadership.

Direction

IT strategy & roadmaps

Clarify where technology should go next, aligned to revenue, risk, and what your team can actually operate day to day.

  • Stakeholder workshops and plain-language briefings for directors and operations
  • Current-state capture: platforms, identities, backups, and single points of failure
  • Prioritised roadmap with phasing, dependencies, and realistic effort bands
  • Board- and insurer-friendly narrative when you need to show due diligence

Platforms

Cloud & hybrid architecture

Landing zones, networking, and migration paths on Microsoft Azure, or pragmatic hybrid designs when on-prem still earns its keep.

  • Subscription hygiene, governance, and cost visibility before spend quietly drifts
  • Identity, connectivity, and backup patterns sized to real RTO/RPO conversations
  • Phased migrations with testable cutovers rather than big-bang weekends by default
  • Documentation your internal team or future partners can pick up without guesswork

Productivity

Microsoft 365 & identity

Tenants, Teams, SharePoint, and Entra ID configured for collaboration without sprawl, with licensing and lifecycle included.

  • Tenant reviews: guest access, sharing, retention, and least-privilege patterns
  • Migration and coexistence planning when you are absorbing another org or brand
  • Conditional access and device posture framed around how your people really work
  • Training cutovers so adoption sticks after the technical work ships

Assurance

Security & risk framing

Structured looks at how you are exposed today, with remediation order that respects budget and uptime rather than fear-mongering.

  • Posture reviews mapped to likelihood and business impact in language you can reuse
  • Vendor and stack choices weighed against your real threat model instead of generic checklists
  • Alignment to insurance, audit, or sector expectations where those pressures exist
  • Handoff into Layer 3 support or project work when you want execution covered too

How we engage

A cadence you can schedule around

  1. 01

    Brief & align

We confirm goals, stakeholders, constraints, and what “good” looks like, whether that’s a remote session or an on-site workshop.

  2. 02

    Assess & evidence

We review systems, configurations, and documentation you authorise and produce a grounded picture instead of assumptions from the cheap seats.

  3. 03

    Recommend & plan

Options, trade-offs, sequencing, and cost bands so you can decide with confidence instead of shopping a single pre-baked answer.

  4. 04

    Partner on delivery

We stay engaged through implementation checkpoints: advising, hands-on, or handing over cleanly to your team when that is the right finish line.

Ways we work

Online or face-to-face: your preference

High-ranking consulting sites make the “how we meet” choice obvious; we do the same. Most discovery and delivery flows work remotely, and we lean into on-site time when it genuinely improves outcomes.

Remote-first consulting

Structured video sessions, screen sharing, and written readouts so stakeholders in multiple offices stay aligned. Ideal for architecture reviews, tenant assessments, and steering meetings with predictable calendars.

In-person when it helps

Workshops, leadership briefings, or physical walkthroughs in the Newcastle area and beyond, scheduled when nuance, trust-building, or site context beats another Zoom. National travel is by agreement so travel and time on tools stay transparent.

Australian delivery

Newcastle-based engineers: same time zones, direct access, and language that respects busy operators.

Remote or in the room

Most consulting runs brilliantly online; when whiteboards, site walks, or board sessions help, we schedule face-to-face time on purpose.

Vendor-neutral counsel

Recommendations follow your outcomes. We are not paid to push a single stack, reseller bundle, or one-size SKU.

Frequently asked questions

Do you only consult remotely?
No. We routinely deliver by video and secure screen share, and we also meet in person in the Newcastle region, at your offices, or nationally by arrangement when the work genuinely needs presence.
What do we receive at the end of an engagement?
You get written findings, options, and a sequenced plan you can hand to leadership or funders, not a slide deck that evaporates after the workshop. When we implement as well, documentation and handover stay part of the story.
How does consulting differ from managed services?
Consulting is time-boxed advice, assessment, and roadmapping; managed services are ongoing operation on a cadence you agree. Many clients use consulting first, then fold outcomes into support, but the two are billed and scoped separately.
Can you work alongside our existing IT person or provider?
Yes. We can lead discovery, hand playbooks to your internal team, or complement another MSP on specific towers (for example identity hardening or migration cutover planning) with clear boundaries.
How do you price consulting?
Typically as agreed day bundles or milestones after a short scoping conversation so expectations on effort, deliverables, and travel stay transparent before we start clocking deep work.
