IT Support for Not-for-Profit Organisations

We support not-for-profits, charities and Aboriginal Land Councils across Australia with practical IT advice, ongoing support, security and Microsoft 365.

We also offer discounted services for eligible NFP organisations.

Over 10 years supporting Australian NFPs

IT support that starts with understanding your organisation

Layer 3 has worked with not-for-profit organisations across Australia for more than a decade, including charities, community organisations and Aboriginal Land Councils. We understand the leaner teams and tighter budgets behind that work, and we keep our advice grounded in what is realistic to fund and sustain.

Before recommending changes, we spend time getting to know the organisation, the people using the technology and the practical challenges they are dealing with. That might mean sitting down with staff, visiting a site, reviewing existing systems or talking with management about what is working and what isn't.

From there, we can give clear advice on what should be kept, improved or replaced. Sometimes the answer is a major change. Quite often it isn't. When you need day-to-day cover as well, our remote and on-site support sits alongside this work.

How we approach NFP IT support

Understand how your organisation works

We spend time with the people who actually use the systems day to day. That includes management, staff and other stakeholders, as well as understanding your programs, funding cycles and the way work gets done. It gives us the context we need to make useful recommendations.

Start with the basics and assess the risks

We review the things that matter first: devices, software, patching, routers and network configuration, backups, security controls and redundancy. From there, we can identify where the real risks are and what is worth addressing first. Deeper hardening sits alongside our broader cybersecurity work when you need it.

Make the most of an NFP IT budget

Eligible organisations can access discounted Microsoft 365 licensing and other NFP vendor programs. We also discount some of our own support and project work, helping organisations get more from their IT budget without cutting corners in areas that matter.

What we focus on

Security, licensing and sensible IT spending

We look closely at security, but we also understand that NFP budgets have limits. Our role is to help organisations reduce risk, make use of available NFP licensing and discounts, and plan technology spending in a way that is practical and sustainable. For retained operational cover, see managed IT services.

  • Hardware inventory and end-of-life risk

Engagement

A clear path from first conversation to reliable ops

  1. 01

    Meet & listen

We meet your people, walk the sites where it helps, and learn how technology supports (or blocks) your programs today.

  2. 02

    Audit & analyse

Security-led review of hardware, networks, patching, backups, and Microsoft tenancy, with findings you can actually read.

  3. 03

    Recommend & budget

Clear options: improve, reconfigure, or replace, with NFP pricing paths and a budget shape that stays predictable.

  4. 04

    Deliver & stay

We implement what you approve and remain available for support, so mission work is not held hostage by fragile IT.

Practical security and governance for Australian NFPs

NFPs often deal with the same cyber risks as larger commercial organisations, but with smaller teams, tighter budgets and added responsibilities around sensitive information. We help make sense of Privacy Act, APP and ACNC requirements, then turn them into practical steps around access, backups, retention, security and breach preparedness. For a fuller security programme view, see our cybersecurity services.

Frequently asked questions

Do you only work with large charities?
No. We support lean local organisations and multi-site NFPs alike. The engagement scales to your team size and funding reality, without watering down security fundamentals.
How do Microsoft 365 not-for-profit licences work?
Qualifying Australian NFPs can access heavily discounted Microsoft 365 plans for email, collaboration, and cloud storage. We help confirm eligibility, set the tenant up correctly, and migrate you off expensive or insecure consumer setups. Start with a conversation via our Microsoft business services or contact page.
Can you help with grant or board reporting on IT?
Yes. We translate technical findings into plain language for Responsible People, grant acquittals, and audit conversations, aligned with expectations around privacy, backups, and proportionate controls.
Do you discount your own services for NFPs?
Yes. Alongside manufacturer NFP pricing where available, we discount technical support and project services so funding constraints do not force unsafe compromises. We will be transparent about rates before work begins.
Is this only for organisations in the Hunter Valley?
Much of our NFP work is local to Newcastle and the Hunter, including Aboriginal land councils and community hubs, but remote delivery supports NFPs across Australia. See where we work.
